More than half of nursing students in Texas are registered nurses, according to a new report by the American Nursing Association.
But the state’s unemployment rate for nurses in Texas is more than twice the national average.
More than 30,000 nursing students are currently employed in Texas.
The report said the state is facing the highest number of nursing vacancies since 2000.
The most recent job numbers showed just over half of the state workforce is currently employed.
More: Nursing is the second largest occupation in Texas after health care workers, the report said.
The state also ranks second in the country for nursing school graduates, and fifth overall.
A total of 3,827 nursing jobs were posted in 2017, according the report.
